Employment prospects for Emergency Physician
Number of emergency medicine jobs opportunities for physicians across the country is just amazing. Archives of Emergency Medicine well as the Emergency Medicine News letters are full of classifieds for such vacancies.
I am quite happy with my current physician position…being at the same job, with the same group, for the last decade. It may not be typical of an emergency physicians but this is how it is.
Look at different classifieds gives you feeling that any emergency physician can pick job anywhere in the country as and when needed. I find it difficult to grasp why there are so unfulfilled jobs across the country? It may be good for new residents but this certainly does not auger will for the speciality.
Only plausible reason I can find is that retiring rate of these physician is much more compared to the new recruits. Emergency Physicians have already become a rare species and if you can not pay handsomely chances to find one are really bleak. You will be very lucky if you can find one in case you are looking for some super speciality like Pediatric Emergency physician.
This I say out of my experience. Our attempts to find a PedsEM have been unsuccessful. Our contacts across the state and country have proved of no use. Only thing we have not tried is an agent of any sort.
This situation leaves us with news good as well as bad news for physician jobs. Good news is for well trained physicians who are ready to locate themselves anywhere in the country. Bad news for those who are trying to hire physicians, for them choice is limited.
